Laurel-Rex Station Honors Fallen Officer

The accent lighting in the Laurel-Rex fire station has been switched to blue in honor of York City Police Officer Alex Sable, 37, who died in the line of duty on May 9, 2018, after suffering a medical emergency while participating in SWAT training in Maryland on May 6th.

Officer Sable was a four-year member of the police department, and was attending training to become a member of the York County Police Quick Respose Team, a SWAT-like team comprised of members from various departments in York County.

The color blue is symbolic of the police department, and the "Thin Blue Line" phrase, that symbolically refers to the police as the line that separates citizens from anarchy.

The members of the City of York Department of Fire/Rescue Services have pledged to stand by the members of the York City Police Department as they deal with this tragedy.

Over 80 members of the organization got the opportunity to tour the station, try on firefighting gear, and socialize with each other and members of the Department of Fire/Rescue Services.
